Mrs. Marilyn Batson - Principal

She is in her seventh year as principal at St. Joseph Catholic School. She taught with Springfield Catholic Schools for eleven years before entering the field of administration. She holds Certification in Elementary Education, a Master's Degree, and Certification in Catholic School Leadership. Mrs. Batson is a graduate of St. Agnes Regional High School and also an 8th grade graduate of St. Joseph School (she won't tell us what year but Sister Mary Camillus was principal at the time). Mrs. Batson's personal philosophy of education is summed up in one of our school mottos: "Every child is a gift from God and has been given a gift to share".

Mrs. Trish Wand - Administrative Assistant

Mrs. Wand is our school secretary. She knows every student and family. She is available every day to assist students and families with questions and procedures. She also loves our library, helps with Book Fairs, and has a girl scout troop!

Mrs. Jan McEvoy - Preschool Teacher

Mrs. McEvoy is a certified Montessori Preschool Instructor in her twentieth year of teaching at St. Joseph Catholic School. She teaches children three through five years of age using the Montessori philosophy and materials. Mrs. Bonnie Johnson - Kindergarten

Mrs. Johnson graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Elementary Education. She has 16 years of teaching experience in public and parochial schools. Mrs. Johnson has taught  Kg., 1st, 5th, 7th, and 8th grade classes. Mrs. Johnson strives to build a positive self-concept and instill a "love of learning" in each child. Her classes are filled with creativity, independent learning centers, small group activities, music, creative play, reading labs, math stations and lots of hands-on learning experiences.

Mrs. Johnson's students are encouraged to always do their best and live each day in a kind, loving, caring way to follow Jesus' examples. Mrs. Johnson loves teaching in parochial schools because she can educate the "whole" child, including their academic, social, and spiritual sides. Mrs. Johnson and her husband, Dean, have four of their own children. She loves to sing, play her flute, read, camp, swim, vacation and spend time with her family.

Mrs. Shannon Perryman - First Grade and Second Grade

Mrs. Shannon Perryman graduated from Missouri State University and completed graduate work at Drury University.  She holds certification in Elementary Education (1-6), English (7-12), and Physical Education (K-12).  This is her 11th year at St. Joseph!

Our first and second grade classroom is a ton of fun!  Reading is a main focus, and our varied reading activities promote overall comprehension.  Students do many hands-on activities and thrive in group sessions.  Peer grouping builds confidence in both grade levels, and students are encouraged to share most of their creative work with the entire classroom.

Our small class size makes it possible for everyone to get plenty of one-on-one attention--this is ideal for both enrichment and remediation.

Mrs. Miriam Jump - Third Grade and Fourth Grade

I have a degree in Elementary Education with a B.S. in Biology, Chemistry and Agribusiness. I have 20 years teaching experience in Catholic Schools. I enjoy teaching at St. Joseph's because that is my vocation. My Catholic faith is who I am and I share it with my students. I teach my students to appreciate God's creation, respect it and themselves. I teach science to the 4th-8th grades students. My students learn by doing hands on science experiments. 6th-8th grades have the option to participate in the OSEF regional science fair at MSU. I also teach religion, history, and writing. My students enjoy participating in regional Language Arts Fair, education fair, art, and essay writing contests. They look forward in taking field trips to the Hammons Performing Arts, water treatment plant, local caves, and a wildlife conservation area to study pond habitat and fish. My goal is for my students to love God and to love science!

Mrs. Claran Aug - Fifth Grade and Sixth Grade

Mrs. Aug has taught in Catholic schools for 29 years, 19 of which have been at St. Joseph School. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Education with a minor in mathematics as well as a Master's Degree in Education. She has taught preschool, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. She is married and has four children, all of whom attended the Springfield Catholic Schools. Teaching is her ministry, and she has been blessed to be able to spend so many years with the teachers, students, and families of St. Joseph School.

Mrs. Aug is the math coordinator. In addition to teaching math to the 3rd through 8th grades, she sponsors a math club for students in the 5th through 8th grades for the purpose of preparing them for math competitions. In addition, her students integrate math with art to produce projects that are entered into the annual math-art contest.

Students in Mrs. Aug's classes are challenged to grow spiritually and academically. They give sevice to the Church by acting as acolytes, readers, and cantors. They participate in community service projects. Their art and writing is entered into numerous area contests. They gain real world experiences from the school sponsored field trips.

Ms. Tammy Ames - Eighth Grade

I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1992.  In the time since I have taught 6th grade for five years and 5th grade for two years in Illinois.  I moved from Illinois to Southwest Missouri in 2002 where I taught third grade for two years in Wheaton, MO.  I was hired in 2004 to teach here at St. Joseph School where I am in my seventh year of teaching Eighth Grade and Language Arts for the middle school.

I have a passion for literature and hope to pass the love of reading on to students.  We read various novels, stories,  and poems by authors such as Edgar Allen Poe, Harper Lee, Mark Twain, Walt Whitman, Karan Hesse, and many more.

Students can enter their writing in the Language Arts Fair every year and compete in the spelling bee for their grade level.

The eighth grade is responsible for Student Council activities and for putting the school yearbook together.  They also practice leadership through working with their Kindergarten buddies. Students pair up with the Companions of Mary at St. Joseph Church to pray for each other and support each other throughout the year.

Students that graduate from St. Joseph Catholic Academy are well rounded  young people  who show respect, leadership, and Catholic values in their daily actions through prayer and concern for others and their community.

Mr. Joe Regan - Technology

My educational background consists of an M.B.A. with an emphasis in finance and investments. I also have a B.S. In electronics and computer information systems. As long as I can remember I have always had an interest in electronics and built my first crystal radio when I was in second grade.  During my career I have work on audio equipment, color televisions, programmable logic controllers, guided missiles, and computer testing systems. With my background in technology I like to teach students how the computer works in addition to how to use it. One of my hobbies is amateur radio. I have been a licensed ham for 35 years and hold an extra class license. My long range goal is to set up an amateur radio station at the school and help the students get a license. During the week you can sometimes find me operating at 145.43 and 147.12 Mhz.
