St. Joseph Catholic School is dedicated to excellence in education and to the spiritual development of youth within the framework of the Gospel and in the Tradition of the Catholic Church.
Because learning tasks in a multi-age class are given according to the correct developmental levels, children are more likely to feel successful, and have fewer failures. Younger students are exposed to material above grade level as they see and hear what the older students are doing. Older students experience reinforcement of skills they were previously exposed to when they are part of the learning environment as those skills are introduced to the younger students.
Multi-age classrooms have a lot of motivating activities; attention is given to learning styles, multiple intelligences, and interests, as well as abilities. When children are motivated, they tend to do their best and are proud of their efforts. They tend to be more willing to work, thereby raising their level of achievement.
To successfully teach in a multi-age setting the faulty of St. Joseph School uses Differentiated Instruction techniques to address the learning strengths and needs of each student. This approach allows students of varying ability and developmental skills to succeed side-by-side in the classroom.
